The Grass is Greener

...in California because let's face it, we live in Utah where it's snowy. Craig, Lucas, and I were lucky enough to visit both our parents this holiday season. First we went down to my parents in Lancaster and spent until the Monday before Christmas with them and then we went up to Craig's parents in Manteca and spent Christmas with them. Both occasions were monstrous fun. We got back Saturday night and are happy to be home. While at Craig's parents', though, we documented only two occasions...silly us. First, a visit with our dear friends Enos and Lindsay...we miss them lots. And the second, Lucas' first experience with grass. Enjoy!

Mom...is this grass?

It was so cute...when we put him in the grass he wasn't sure if he was supposed to touch it or not so when he was crawling in it...he made a conscious effort to lift his hands really high.

I'm so excited, Mom!

A War? On Christmas??

HERE is an article I read on Yahoo News and, though I celebrate Christmas, I whole heartedly agree with this "group" of people. I do think that Christmas should be celebrated but it's not something I'm going to force someone to believe in. My favorite quote from the article is:

"Christians get all bent out of shape over the fact that someone didn't say 'Merry Christmas' when I walked into the store. But why are we expecting the store to tell our story? That's just ridiculous." - Pastor Ricky McKinley.

Bless that Pastor's heart for realizing Christians or believers in Christ (LDS included) are the only ones that have something special to celebrate this season.

An even better point made is that besides the fact that Christians expect a "Merry Christmas" rather than a "Happy Holidays", is they also expect this to be done while they're going into massive debt to buy their family presents, or making sure they buy the nicest present to win some kind of fictional contest. In light of this, Craig and I have decided to make it a family tradition in our house to put some of the money we're setting aside for presents toward a charity of our family's choice. This, of course, won't happen until next year, but I think it will help remind our children that the greatest gift you can give the Lord is to help his children out.

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas AND Happy Holidays.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon

Yes, I know, I saw it. Saturday morning to be specific and yes, to answer your question, the theater was full even on Saturday morning. I do allow that it is better than the first one. It was easy to see that the new director actually knew what he was doing.

The graphics were decent and they did a good job hitting all the important points of the book and leaving out irrelevant dramas within the plot. I do have to admit that the wig they have the guy playing Aro wearing looks a little like Antonio Banderas' wig in Interview with a Vampire. If you've seen the movie...you know what I'm talking about. :) Also, the dialog was a little cheesy and I distinctly remember looking away from the screen because I was embarrassed by what they were saying and doing. But never fret, I need to learn my lesson eventually because the next few movies will be INFINITELY more cheesy and "embarrassing" to me.

OH! And the physical difference between Jacob and Edward is PAINFULLY obvious. It's really sad once you see Edward with his shirt off after looking at Jacob with his shirt off the entire movie. Anyways. I can't really suggest whether to rent it, skip it, or watch it because it focuses on such a specific audience.

And finally, I wouldn't be doing this post justice if I didn't exclaim how Twilight fans crack me up. I think that was one of the highlights about the movie was all their squeals and and coos of joy. Love it.

On Friday we had a little costumer party at our apartment. I'm pretty awful at taking pictures during events so this was all I could scrounge up. I even had to steal a picture from our other friends' blog to get a picture of them in their costumes...ugh pathetic. Anywho, enjoy!

Valkyrie

Last night Craig and I finally sat down and watched the movie Valkyrie. I don't know why we were waiting so long because it was an incredible movie. Granted, it's not for everyone. If you're interested in World War II or Adolf Hitler history, it is an extremely powerful movie. The actors they used did a phenomenal job acting and what an honor it would be for them to play the characters they played. You felt anxious when they were anxious, you were upset when they were upset. It was just extremely well done. In most movies you watch the movie and learn to hate the villain. In this one, you go into it already hating him, but again, only if you are extremely aware of the atrocities Adolf Hitler accomplished. In the movie, it does not build on the hate for the villain and I would be surprised if they had. He was an extremely sick man; a charmer of thousands. Thank heavens there were people like Colonel Stauffenberg and General Olbricht that understood the madness that was spreading throughout Europe and took it upon themselves to try and protect the rest of the world. May they rest in peace.
